 Mapping a portion of RELLIS campus with Lidar

I undertook this brief task more as a learning exercise than anything else. I regularly work with a Drive-By-Wire enabled Lincoln MKZ as part of my other research work. The car happens to be fitted with multiple sensors including a couple of Velodyne Lidars (see image below).

I decided to map a portion of the RELLIS campus using the onboard Lidar and a localization and mapping package for ROS. A screenshot of the point-cloud map built from the data collected is shown below alongside a Google Maps view of the TTI building.
